Case Study 11.4: Faculty as Advocates

Jess Thompson at the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, created a resource that provides a useful model for thinking about accessibility advocacy. Thompson’s flyer, “Hello Publisher Representatives,” is meant for faculty members who are making course material selections. The flyer can be easily handed over to a publisher and presents a list of questions like, “are your resources compatible with screen readers?”

While this resource is specific to course materials, it suggests an interesting option for inviting faculty members to join in advocating for more accessible platforms and tools in the service of scholarly communication.
