Case Study 5.5: Kairos: A Journal of Rhetoric, Technology, and Pedagogy

The open access journal Kairos presents another example for collaborating with authors on accessibility. Kairos centers accessibility and usability in its submission requirements and “Style Guide.” In addition, the journal consciously fosters discussions on accessibility and disability rights as it has published a range of webtexts including, for instance, “Access/ibility: Access and Usability for Digital Publishing.”

In publishing open access journals, libraries may have a role in inviting journal editors to similarly engage with accessibility practices. Kairos’ submission guidelines also model another avenue for encouraging authors to follow accessibility practices.
