41 4.9 SUMMARY

Culture, the learned portion of human behavior is a very broad and very deep topic of human study. Historically humans have lived in small groups practicing folk culture. This was particularly true of the cultures the sprang from the diffusion of agriculture. Many of the folk culture attributes date to this time of human development. The industrial age also ushered in the era of popular culture. Pop culture provides the cues that people use to live, work, and interact. Relatively recently has been the rise of global culture, a phenomenon in which large numbers of people in diffuse places are committing the same or similar culture practices.
