Chapter 4: STAYING IN TOUCH
Meagan Lobnitz, Johanna L. Phelps, and Nick Blair
This chapter provides principles for reflecting on your community engagement experience in technical and professional writing courses. Reflection is a necessary component of community engaged experiences, and your instructor will provide guided reflection strategies.
One of the great benefits of community engaged learning experiences is growing your learning network exponentially. Nonprofit partners are usually open to having students continue serving if they are looking to add experience or volunteer entries on their resume. However, volunteering with a nonprofit beyond the scope of your technical and professional writing course may require many additional considerations. In this chapter, you will learn strategies to reflect on and look forward to future engagement opportunities as you wrap up your community engagement experience for this course.
Highlights from this chapter include:
- the importance of reflection for community engaged projects, as well as reflection questions
- strategies for approaching your community partner for a professional recommendation
